COAL TOWNSHIP - Lewis Peter Gaydon, 94, of Coal Township, died at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Lou was born in Kulpmont, June 18, 1924, a son of the late Peter and Theresa (Midway) Gaydon.

He first worked as a independent supplier of baked goods, then as a stockman for Arrow Shirt and finally as owner of Gaydon's Bar & Catering service form 1970 to 1988.

He was a 1943 graduate of Shamokin High School.

Lou served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations.

On June 7, 1946, he married the former Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Sullivan, who preceded him in death March 8, 2017.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Rescue Fire Company and a past fire chief who served in the early 1970s, and a 25-year member of the Shamokin–Coal Township Joint Sewer Authority.

Lou played football and wrestled during high school. He was an avid Shamokin sports fan.

He is survived by sons, Kenneth Gaydon and his wife, Josephine, of Connecticut and James Gaydon, of Shamokin; a special son, Joseph Dorovich, of Wilmington, Delaware; a daughter, Theresa Gaydon-Williams, of Lewisburg; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Stoschack, of Bear Gap.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Gaydon, in 2012; his brother, Joseph Gaydon; and sisters, Mary Janosek and Anna Daniels.

GAYDON - Lewis Peter Gaydon, 94, of Coal Township. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Rose Shepley officiating. Burial will be at Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. John's United Church of Christ, 118 N. Eighth St., Shamokin 17872. Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, are in charge of arrangements.
