CLEVELAND TOWNSHIP — Mable A. Brophy, 85, of Cleveland Township, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 3, 2013, at her home. She had been dealing with health problems for the past year.

Born in Cleveland Township, May 18, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Lulu (Dimmick) Mensch.

Mable was a homemaker. She worked briefly for a dress factory and Emmenee Shirt Factory in Catawissa and did cleaning at the Fisherdale Church for 25 years.

She was a member of Fisherdale United Methodist Church, which is now Roaring Creek Valley United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a ladies aide, member of Sunshine Pals, where she was secretary, played piano for Sunday school and secretary for the memorial fund. She was also a member of Roaring Creek Valley Grange.

Mable enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans. She loved her children, grandchildren and her daughters-in-law. She was a loving, kind person dedicated to her God and family. Mable was a Godly woman who raised five sons who loved and honored her. She also loved to read and traveled extensively.

Surviving are five sons, James L. Brophy and his wife, April, Barry L. Brophy and his wife, Patty, and Rodney W. Brophy, all of Elysburg, the Rev. Kevin E. Brophy and his wife, Irene, of Salladasburg, and Daren R. Brophy and his wife, Tammie, of Catawissa; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother, Clarence Mensch and his wife, Joan, of Elysburg; two sisters, Mildred Miller and her husband, Carl, of Halifax, and Eleanor Long and her husband, Joseph, of Elysburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Brophy, who died in 1994, ending a marital union of 46 years. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Kermit Mensch, and two sisters, Evelyn Helwig and Lorraine Reeder.

BROPHY — Mable A. Brophy, 85, of Cleveland Township. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the former Fisherdale United Methodist Church, Fisherdale Road, with the Rev. Chad Carter, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Numidia. Visitation for friends will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa. Contributions in her memory may be made to Columbia Montour Home Hospice, 410 Glen Ave., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
