DANVILLE — Matthew L. "Babe" Mudrick, 84, of 114 Pocahontas Lane, Elysburg, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at Maria Hall Hospice after a lengthy illness.

Born in Marion Heights, Feb. 19, 1929, he was a son of the late John and Helen (Lashendock) Mudrick.

After graduating from Kulpmont High School with the Class of 1947, he spent nine years in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He also trained at the Department of Defense Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, Calif.

On Oct. 22, 1960, in Ozone Park, N.Y., he married the former Anna Bondy, who survives.

Mr. Mudrick was a member of the Patronage of Mother of God Church, where he was a choir member and worked the pierogie project until he became too ill. He also was a member of the American Legion of Kulpmont and a member of Laborers International Union of North America Local 409 of Lyndhurst, N.J., since 1956, having served as secretary-treasurer while living in New Jersey.

Matthew and Anna raised four children while residing in Lodi, N.J., retiring in February 1991 and moving to their current address in Elysburg.

Babe will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted dad and caring grandfather. He loved his church and was proud of his Byzantine Catholic faith.

In addition to his wife, Anna, Babe is survived by a daughter, Marlene LeVine and her husband, John; three sons, Dennis and his wife, Pamela, David and his wife, Maria, and Matthew and his wife, Sherry; grandchildren, Abby, Matthew, James, Timothy, Michaela, Connor, Lauren, Amanda and Brandon; sisters-in-law, Mary Mudrick, Jean Lynch and Evon Cassidy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Babe was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; a nephew, Edward; brothers-in-law, John Lynch and Thomas Cassidy, and a niece, Holly Cassidy.

MUDRICK — Matthew L. "Babe" Mudrick, 84, of 114 Pocahontas Lane, Elysburg. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Patronage of Mother of God Church, 155 Melrose St., Marion Heights, with the Rev. Mark Fesniak officiating. Burial will be in Patronage of Mother of God Cemetery, Marion Heights. Viewing will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Panahyda at 10 a.m., at C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, C.J. Lucas, supervisor.
