DANVILLE - Myrtle Effie (Campbell) Smink, 91, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born March 7, 1927, in Irish Valley. Her parents, the late Grover Cleveland Campbell, a miner, and Mary Helen Machaesic, owned and worked a farm in the area. She grew up on the family farm with her three sisters, Janette, Vera and June; and two brothers, Whitt and Phillip.

Myrtle worked at Westinghouse in Sunbury, where she met the late John Peter Smink, her beloved husband of 54 years. They had three children, Mary (Smink) Rohrbach and her husband, Bob Rohrbach, of Trinidad, Colorado, John Smink, of Shady Nook, and Thomas Smink, of Snydertown.

After her work at Westinghouse, Myrtle was employed for 15 years as a teacher's aide at C.W. Rice Middle School in Northumberland. She was very interested in local history and participated in many community activities.

Myrtle was extremely close to her large family. She was known for her wonderful cooking, especially her delicious pies. She also enjoyed traveling and family outings.

Myrtle was deeply involved in her community through her church as a Sunday school teacher and, most of all, was lovingly devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed.
