LANCASTER - Patricia "Pat" (Bernas) Kautter, 69, a daughter of Len and Irene Bernas, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, after a year-long courageous battle with cancer.

She was born March 5, 1949, in Mount Carmel.

She was raised in Mount Carmel and then relocated to Lancaster.

She taught English, dance and theatre at Hempfield High School.

She received a B.S. in secondary education English from Millersville University. She earned an M.A. in dance education from Temple University, where she received Temple's Professional Dance Educator Award. She worked passionately advocating for the arts and creating theater and dance curriculum.

She received numerous awards, including Lancaster County's Art Educator of the Year, Pennsylvania's Dance Educator of the Year and Northeast Dance Educator of the Year.

Pat also volunteered as an English instructor for the American Red Cross at Fort Indiantown Gap's Vietnamese Relocation Center, and taught classes at Lancaster's Adult Enrichment Center and through the Spanish American Civic Association.

Her family give a heartfelt thanks to the many friends who extended kindness and care.

Pat is survived by her mother, Irene; her two brothers, Len and Philip; her sons, Richard and Douglas; and her grandsons, Zach and Rowen.


KAUTTER - Patricia "Pat" (Bernas) Kautter, 69, of Lancaster. The public is invited to her Celebration of Life, to be held at the Hempfield High School Performing Arts Center, 1555 Kauffman Road, Landisville, Pa. at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018. A picnic will also be held in her honor at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, in Buchanan Park, Lancaster (located behind the flag pole off Buchanan Ave. near the rose garden).
