TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Richard Clarence Phillips, 86, of 3604 Muirfield Drive, and formerly of Shamokin, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, in his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Shamokin, Aug. 16, 1926, a son of the late Daniel and Lottie (Kohler) Phillips.

A 1944 graduate of Shamokin High School, he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Okinawa campaign during World War II.

He studied engineering at Syracuse University and worked as an electrical engineer for various companies: U.S. Gypsum, Sylvania, Martin Marietta, IBM, Control Data Corp. and Harris.

Richard and his wife, Beverly, successfully managed Martha's Gift Shop in Cocoa Village, Fla., for 15 years and enjoyed the village merchants and the community.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Titusville, and a former member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Coal Township.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly, at home; a daughter, Karen Kugelmann and her husband, Pete; four granddaughters, Rachel Diggers and her husband, Matt, and Amanda, Hanna and Molly Kugelmann; three great-grandchildren, Madeline, Owen and Liam Diggers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rick Phillips.

PHILLIPS — Richard Clarence Phillips, 86, of 3604 Muirfield Drive, Titusville, Fla., formerly of Shamokin. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Trevorton Road, with the Rev. Karyn Fisher officiating. Donations may be made to Hospice of Saint Francis Inc., 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, Fla. 32780. Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, has charge of arrangements.
