MOUNT CARMEL - Robert A. Nolter Sr., 80, of 2616 Locust Gap Highway, and formerly of 1780 Wabash St., Coal Township, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community, where he lived for the last 2 1/2 years.
He was born Sept. 23, 1933, in Shamokin, a son of the late Aloysius and Mildred (Yucha) Nolter. He was a lifelong resident of Shamokin.
He attended St. Edward's Elementary School and Coal Township High School.
Robert served in the U.S. Army, entering active duty April 20, 1953, from Harrisburg. During his enlistment, he served with the 101st Airborne Division at Camp Breckenridge, Ky. He received an honorable discharge Nov. 18, 1953, from Ft. Lewis, Wash.
On Nov. 2, 1956, in St. Edward's Church, he married Mary Jane Persing, who survives.
He was the owner/operator of Nolter Brothers Asphalt Company.
Robert was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, the Rough and Ready Hunting Club, the Lithuanian Club and the Independence, Rescue and East End fire companies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Theresa Kistler and her husband, Donnie, of Coal Township, Robert Nolter Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Coal Township, Lori Guman and her husband, Scott, of Bethlehem, Debbie Nichols, of Elysburg, James Nolter and his wife, Patty, of Shamokin, and Jeff Nolter and his wife, Mindy, of Coal Township; 15 grandchildren, Daniel Williams and his wife, Michelle, Ariana, Morgan, and Madysyn Nolter, Scott Jr., Tyler, Sam, Nathan, and Jordan Guman, Curtis Nichols and his wife, Rachel, Janessa and Brent Nichols, and Jared, Chelsea and Jeff Nolter Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Nadia, Emersyn and Ameera Williams and Tyler Guman Jr.; two step-grandchildren, Tony and Christina Kistler; a brother, John Nolter and his wife, Ann Marie, of Coal Township; a sister, Sandy Grommett, of Shamokin, and two sisters-in-law, Pat Nolter and Mary Lou Nolter.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Williams; three brothers, Aloysius, Andrew and Dennis, and a sister, Julie Frisby.

NOLTER — Robert A. Nolter Sr., 80, of 2616 Locust Gap Highway, Mount Carmel, and formerly of 1780 Wabash St., Coal Township. A funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday at the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, with a friar from Mother Cabrini Church officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
