SHAMOKIN — Robert G. Herb, 59, of 141 Cedar Road, Shamokin (Irish Valley), passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, peacefully at home.

Born in Shamokin, Aug. 3, 1953, he was a son of the late Harry A. and Catherine (Schroyer) Herb. He was a 1971 graduate of Shamokin Area High School, and later received his bachelor's degree in finance from the Penn State University.

Robert had many career accomplishments, most noting his nearly 30-year tenure with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, serving most recently as the Director of Lottery Securities until his retirement in 2000. During his career with the state government, Robert devoted his time to work and to building lasting friendships with those with whom he worked.

He was kind and caring, quick-witted, sharp and hard-working, and shared a love for living life. Robert was funny and his laughter was contagious. He was an avid Penn State fan and loved spending time in State College. He enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally, always taking on a new experience and adventure.

Robert's interests were vast, including his participation and commitment to the . But his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, "the light of his life." Robert was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend to all. Robert was of the Protestant faith, most recently attending Elysburg Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kristin (Herb) and Stephen Cambria, of Elysburg; a son, Aaron Herb, of Shamokin; three grandchildren, Kari and Jacob Cambria and Cain Herb; five brothers, George Herb, Harry Herb, Edward Herb, Ronald Herb and William Herb; seven sisters, Barbara Kahler (Herb), Patricia Bendas (Herb), Connie Paige (Herb), Ruth Snyder (Herb), Nancy McElwee (Herb), Jeanne Jurewicz (Herb) and Sally Sherman (Herb), and countless in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Bendas (Herb), and three brothers, Thomas Herb, Ralph Herb and John Herb.


HERB — Robert G. Herb, 59, of 141 Cedar Road, Shamokin. A Memorial of Life Service is to be coordinated by his children and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert's name to the , or to Aaron Herb or Kristin Cambria to then be forwarded to the ACS, . The Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home, Shamokin, has charge of arrangements.
