SHAMOKIN — Roger L. "Sam" Collier, 71, of 3816 Upper Road, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Monday, Sept, 30, 2013, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He had been in failing health the past five years.

Born at home in West Cameron Township, March 1, 1942, he was one of 15 children born to Claire and Anna (Weikel) Collier. He was a resident of East Cameron and West Cameron townships most of his life.

He attended West Cameron Township Elementary School.

He was a deep coal miner since the age of 15 and a truck driver most of his life.

On Aug. 25, 1964, in Bethel Union Chapel, Lester Kerstetter presided at the marriage of Roger and the former Geraldine Robson, who preceded him in death July 25, 1998.

Surviving are his son, Michael, with whom he resided in East Cameron Township; a daughter, Sherry Logan and her husband, Ernest, of West Cameron Township; two grandchildren, Ashley Peters and her husband, Ross, of Watsontown, and Robert Logan, of West Cameron Township. Roger's first great-grandson is due Oct. 26, 2013.

Also surviving are five sisters, Grace Reichold, of West Cameron Township, Louella Kerstetter and her husband, Robert, of Lititz, Shirley O'Brick and Beverly Rebuck Boyer, of East Cameron Township, and Bettina Tomlinson and her husband, Gerry, of Dornsife; five brothers, Mark Collier and his wife, Karen, of West Cameron Township, Reynold Collier and his wife, Delores, Douglas Collier and his wife, Bonnie, of East Cameron Township, Dave Collier and his wife, Cheryl, of Minersville, and Dwight Collier and his wife, Kay, of Girardville; three brothers-in-law, William Robson and his wife, Barbara, Larry Robson and his wife, Patricia, and Robert Hine.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands, Creda and Clark Kerstetter and Celine and Kenneth Weikel; two brothers, Claire Collier Jr. and Donald Collier; brothers-in-law, William, Robert, Jerry and Walter, and two sisters-in-law, Agnes Hine and Mary Ann Nicholson.


COLLIER — Roger L. "Sam" Collier, 71, of 3816 Upper Road, Shamokin. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family with the Rev. David Butler presiding. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, have charge of arrangements.
