NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Rose Bakowicz, 83, of New Brunswick, and formerly of Shamokin, Pa. passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Willow Creek Rehabilitation and Care Center, Somerset.

Born Oct. 29, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Anastasia Zelinski. She was a resident of New Brunswick for most of her life.
Her husband, Joseph Bakowicz, preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1988.
Rose was employed as a postal worker with the New Brunswick Postal Service until her retirement in 1994.
She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, New Brunswick, and Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church, Shamokin, Pa.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Bakowicz and his wife, Olga, of Avenel; a daughter, Kathleen Szelso and her husband, Sal, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and two grandchildren, Jessy C. and Steven C. Szelso.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Zelinski, in 1990.
BAKOWICZ — Rose Bakowicz, 83, of New Brunswick, N.J. and formerly of Shamokin. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church, Shamokin, with Rev. Ruslan Romanyuk as celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Coal Township. Viewing will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home, 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin.
