COAL TOWNSHIP — Stephen P. Bednar, 74, of 1342 Hemlock St., previously of Mount Carmel, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013, while in the company of family members, at his residence.

Born Jan. 21, 1939, in Mount Carmel, he was a son of the late Rita (Doyle) and Michael Bednar.
Stephen graduated from Mount Carmel High School.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years.
On Aug. 5, 1961, in Mount Carmel, he married the former Patricia Buzzie, who survives him.
Stephen was the owner of B&R Body Works, Mount Carmel.
He was a parishioner of Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin.
In addition to his loving wife, Pat, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon, wife of Dean Whary, of Trevorton, and Julie Bednar, of Coal Township; two sons, Stephen Bednar, of Shamokin, and Matthew Bednar, of Coal Township; two grandchildren, Julissa and Andrew; one brother, Leonard Bednar, of Mount Carmel, and one sister, Maureen Doyle, of New York.
BEDNAR — Stephen P. Bednar, 74, of 1342 Hemlock St., Coal Township, previously of Mount Carmel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Mother Cabrini Church, 200 N. Shamokin St. at Webster Street, Shamokin, with a Mother Cabrini Parish Friar officiating. Interment of his cremains will follow the Mass in St. Mary's Cemetery, Coal Township. Relatives and friends attending the Mass are asked to meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Friday as there will not be a viewing or visitation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
