SHAMOKIN — Theodore W. "Dory" Bakowicz, 92, of 714 E. Race St., passed away Monday evening, May 6, 2013, at the Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.

Born Aug. 18, 1920, in Excelsior, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Barbara (Kutzer) Bakowicz.

He entered the Army Air Corps Jan. 20, 1942, and served with 5th Air Corp, 8th Bomber Group during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. He received his honorable discharge June 23, 1945, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

On July 13, 1946, in the former St. Edward's Church, Shamokin, he married Pauline A. Klemick, who preceded him in death July 26, 2005.

For many years, he was employed as a concrete plant manager for the former Shamokin-Danville Redi-Mix Company, and later Central Builders Supply, until his retirement.

He was a member of Mother Cabrini Church and Friendship Fire Company, Shamokin, and Sunny Hills Golf Club, Sunbury.

Dad's passion was playing golf. If the sun was out, dad was out. He took great pride in having eight PGA officially sanctioned holes-in-one, all occurring after the age of 70. He also always enjoyed out scoring his 66-year-old son.

Dad will be sadly missed by all of his friends and loving family, which include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Sandy Bakowicz, of Danville, David and Carol Bakowicz, of Bartlett, Tenn., and George and Terry Bakowicz, of Elizabethville; seven grandchildren, Ted Bakowicz and his wife, Allison, Gina Horne and her husband, Mark, Rachael Bakowicz, Jillian Fletcher and her husband, Lonnie, Allison Bunker and her husband, Pat, Andrew Bakowicz, and Katherine Bakowicz; five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Elyse Bakowicz, Benjamin Horne, and Nathan and Samantha Fletcher; a sister, Marie Young, of Emmanuel Center, Danville, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Krepshaw, Eva Cosentino and Anna Connaghan; four brothers, John, Joseph, Nicholas and Wasil Bakowicz, and a great-grandson, Lucas Horne.
