SHAMOKIN — John William Price Sr., 76, of 131 Sleepy Hollow Road, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Dec. 19, 1935, in Shamokin, PA he was a son of the late William Haupt and Sarah (Dunn) Price.

He was a 1952 graduate of Coal Township High School.

From July 26, 1955, to June 24, 1959, he served with the U.S. Navy.

On Sept. 3, 1960, he married Frieda (Kerstetter) Price, who survives.

He worked for Arrow Shirt Factory, Shamokin, and retired in 1997 from Weis Markets, where he was employed as a truck driver.

John attended the Friendly Holiness Church in Helfenstein and was a foster grandparent for almost 15 years. He enjoyed hunting and played tambourine in the Lebanon Valley Gospel Band. He was a Penn State football fan and a faithful Phillies fan.

In addition to his wife, he was survived by three children, John Price Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Gail Price, of Shamokin, and Paul Price and his wife, Sharicka, of Graham, N.C.; four grandchildren, two great-granchildren; two sisters, Sarah Bottiger and Annetta Kramer, and several nieces and nephews.

PRICE — John William Price Sr., 76, of 131 Sleepy Hollow Road, Shamokin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Friendly Holiness Church, Helfenstein with the Rev. Bill Peters, interim pastor Kent Straight and the Rev. Ricky Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Viewing will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, has charge of the arrangements.
