COAL TOWNSHIP — E. Arlene (Greene) Humes, of 195 Johns Estate Road, Apt. 3, Coal Township, formerly of 122 N. Poplar St., Coal Township, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Shamokin, Arlene was a daughter of the late Eva (Ritzman) and Richard Greene.
She was a graduate of Coal Township High School.
On May 17, 1947, in Shamokin, she married Richard L. Humes, who preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1969.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She was a homemaker. For many years, Arlene owned and operated both Al's Tavern and Al's Pizza, which were located on Market Street, Shamokin.
Arlene was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Auxiliary, Shamokin, and Shamokin Area Democratic Women. She volunteered her time serving with the Mountain View Manor Nursing Home Auxiliary, Coal Township.
She enjoyed traveling with her daughter, Joan, and her husband, Richard, and visited almost every state in the U.S. One of her most recent quests, and one of her favorites, was a trip to Alaska. She also spent three years with her daughter and late husband living in Germany.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan A. Humes, with whom she resided and who also was her loving and devoted caretaker; a son, Richard L. Humes and his wife, Coral, of Shamokin; two grandsons, Richard A. Humes and Julius Humes, and numerous friends.
Arlene was the last survivor of that generation of her family.

A religious funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, with the Rev. David Butler, pastor of Bethel Union Chapel, officiating. Friends are invited to call at the visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to
