TAFT, Calif. — Charles "Bob" J. Shipe, 63, of Taft, Calif., passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

He was born March 28, 1950, in Trevorton, Pa., a son of the late Ruth M. (Reidinger) Shipe, of Selinsgrove, Pa., and the late Arthur M. Shipe.

He attended Trevorton public schools and graduated from Line Mountain High School in 1968.

He was employed for several years at Dorsey Trailers before attending advanced welder certification school in Arizona.

Bob spent his remaining career as a private welding contractor in and around the oil fields of California.

He was a Harley rider and fisherman and enjoyed wildlife of all kinds.

He was a tried and true free spirit.

One of his most memorable adventures was mud sliding at the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival in upstate New York in 1969.

In addition to his mother, survivors include three daughters, Cordie Mickelson, of Enumclaw, Wash., Stephanie Shipe, of El Cerrito, Calif., and Kaitlyn Shipe, of Blue Lake, Calif.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ron and Linda Shipe, of Penns Creek, Pa., James Shipe, of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Glenn and Laurie Shipe, of Madiera Beach, Fla.; four nieces, Leanna Shipe, of Orlando, Fla., Nicole Shipe, of Old Bridge, N.J., Morgan Shipe, of Clearwater, Fla., and Dorothy Whitfield, of Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash.; a nephew, Jerry Shipe, of Republic, Mich.; a grandson, Larsen Mickelson, and a granddaughter, Lilly Mickelson, of Enumclaw, Wash.
