Verna Joan Kessler, 73, formerly of Spring Glen, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at The Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg after a long fight with multiple sclerosis.

She was born on Wednesday, April 10, 1940, in Upper Mahantongo Twp., a daughter of the late Cloyd D. Mattern, Sr. and Verna M. Snyder Mattern.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento.
Her husband, Leonard I. Kessler died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cloyd Mattern, Jr. and Ray Mattern; and a sister, Esther Schwartz.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly A. Hockenberry and her husband Jim of Shermansdale and Holly J. Jury and her husband Chris of Elizabethville; a granddaughter, Cortney Koppenhaver of Spring Glen; a grandson, Colby Jury of Elizabethville; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby Smith and Lena Schwartz.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento, on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Raymond Holland officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial will be made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento.
