MOUNT CARMEL — Thomas Henry "Fleet" Latshaw, 74, of Mount Carmel, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at home after a five-year illness.

Born in Shamokin, Oct. 15, 1939, he was a son of the late Leroy and Anna (Emerick) Latshaw.
He was educated in Mount Carmel Township School in Locust Gap.
He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 16, serving two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He was discharged, attaining the rank of E5.
On May 19, 1962, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he married the former Elaine Adolpho, who preceded him in death Dec. 26, 2008.
He was employed as a coal miner, worked on construction with Local 158-Labor Unit and retired as a heavy equipment operator from the cogeneration plant in Marion Heights. After retirement, he worked as a site manager for his son's company conducting deployment training for the military.
He was a member of the Mount Carmel American Legion and was active in various sports, including playing softball for Pinamonti's softball team.
His passion was making people happy, which he fulfilled by cooking for his grandchildren and laughing and joking with family and friends. Everyday he would take his granddaughter to school and go and have coffee with his brother, James. Tom was grateful for the simple pleasures of life.
Survivors include three children, Leroy A. Latshaw and his wife, Jamie, and their children, Nohelani, James and Leah, of Fillmore, Calif., Leilani R. Spangler and her children, Andrew and Montana, of Mount Carmel, and Thomas H. Latshaw Jr. and his wife, Sonjia, and their daughter, Julia, of Vero Beach, Fla.; three brothers, James, Adam and Michael Latshaw, all of Mount Carmel; three sisters, Ruth Ann Jones, of Shamokin, and Lillian Latshaw and Jean Long, both of Mount Carmel.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and John, and two sisters, Dorothy and Florence.
