SHAMOKIN — Robert Knowles Sr., 81, of 126 N. Vine St., passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 26, 1933, in Miami, Fla., a son of the late Arthur J. and Louisa (Bowe) Knowles. Prior to living in Shamokin, he resided in Florida until 1976.

He attended Jesu Catholic School in Miami, Fla.

He served in the National Guard for 10 years.

On April 28, 1962, in St. Anthony Church, Ranshaw, by the Rev. Martin Brown, Robert married Nancy Kotwica, who survives.

He was employed as an airline mechanic for Pan American Airlines for 41 years.

He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church, Ranshaw, now Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin.

His hobbies included being a ham radio operator. He loved to go to the gym and take walks, and he attended many of his grandchildren's sporting events. He and his family spent many winters in Key West, Fla.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Robert Knowles Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Ranshaw, Theron Knowles, of South Carolina, and Maribeth Dwane and her husband, Robert, of Southwick, Mass; four grandchildren, Bridie Dwane, Matthew and Mitchell Knowles and Erica Taylor, and two sisters, Annemarie Ferry and Emily Adkins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, James, Paul, John, Thomas, Mary, Alice, Thelma, Evelyn, Monica and Arthur Joseph Jr. in infancy.

KNOWLES — Robert Knowles Sr., 81, of 126 N. Vine St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin, Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian vigil service at 6 p.m. and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor, 120 S. Market St., Shamokin.
