MOUNT CARMEL — Katherine Lutz, 103, of 28 W. Avenue, passed away at 10:08 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Sunbury Community Hospital.

Born in Mount Carmel Feb. 9, 1911, she was a daughter of Clayton R. and Sallie (Ghares) Diehl.

She was a Mount Carmel High School graduate.

Katherine was married to the late Russell J. Lutz, who preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1981.

She worked at Miller Brothers Shoe Store in Mount Carmel before moving to Allentown in the 1950s.

She was a former member of First Church of God and an officer of Mount Carmel Women's Club.

She had also been a Worthy Matron of Chrysanthemum Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Mount Carmel.

In Allentown, she was an active member and choir member of Calvary Moravian Church.

Katherine is survived by two sons, Robert Lutz and wife, Margaret, with whom she resided in Mount Carmel, and Frederick Lutz and wife, Dolores, of Mount Carmel, and several grandsons and their families, the Rev. Randall Lutz, of Santa Fe, N.M., Terrence Lutz, of Danville, Robert W. Lutz II, of State College, Michael Bradley, of Mount Carmel, Col. Leo Bradley, of Alexandria, Va., Frederick and Kathryn Lutz and sons, Nicholas and wife, Kirsten Lutz, and Stephen Lutz, of Berwick, Jonathan and Diana Lutz, of Mount Carmel, and Kenneth and Kathy Lutz, and children, Christopher and Mackenzie, of Mount Carmel.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald R. Lutz, Oct. 31, 2007.

LUTZ — Katherine Lutz, 103, of 28 W. Avenue, Mount Carmel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home, Ray W. Rothermel, director. The Rev. Joan Brown will officiate. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Allentown. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mount Carmel Public Library.
