SHAMOKIN — Lila Marie Yoncoski, 86, of 116 E. Arch St., passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, while in the company of family members, at Sunbury Skilled Nursing Center, Sunbury, where she was a resident for the past year.

Lila was born in Coal Township Nov. 3, 1927, a daughter of the late Elva (Tharp) and Howard Thomas.
She worked as an advertising salesperson at The News-Item, Shamokin, for more than 30 years.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was above all else. Lila saw the beauty in all types of flowers and enjoyed spending time in her home garden.
Lila was the salutatorian of the Coal Township High School Class of 1945.
Lila is survived by a daughter, Lois Jean Herman, and her husband Thomas E., of Danville; a son, Kenneth P. Wert, of Shamokin; grandchildren, Mark David James and Louise Garancheski, of Coal Township, and Kristina B. Wert, of Hamburg; great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Tyler and Jessica James; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Austin James, and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean (Thomas) and Wayne Taylor.
YONCUSKI — Lila Marie Yoncuski, of 116 E. Arch St., Shamokin. A religious funeral service will be held at noon Monday in James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, with James R. Taylor, chaplain of SUN Home Health Hospice, officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury, As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to SUN Home Health Hospice, 61 Duke Street, Northumberland 17857.
