SHAMOKIN — Mary Ann Slaby, 75, of Shamokin, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, in her home surrounded by her beloved family.

She was born in Shamokin, Oct. 18, 1938, a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Yodzio) Slaby.
She attended St. Stanislaus Grade School and graduated from Shamokin High School, Class of 1957.
She worked at the Anthracite Shirt Factory and the Shamokin Shoe Factory before retiring.
She was an active member of Mother Cabrini Church, the former St. Stanislaus Church, and served as a eucharistic minister for the parish. She was a devout Roman Catholic and an avid believer in the power of daily prayer and the rosary.
She was a member and former president of the Council of Catholic Women, a member and former president of the St. Francis Ladies auxiliary and a member of the Shamokin-Coal Township Senior Action Center.
She was also involved with the parish bingo, annual picnics and other parish activities. She worked at the voting polls for many years and was the judge of elections, 107th district, 5th Ward, Shamokin, of which she was so proud. She enjoyed meeting her friends at the polls.
Her hobbies included going on bus trips with her friend, Carol, to see the Philadelphia Phillies and watching the Philadelphia Eagles on TV, along with working many hours in her yard on her plants and flowers. She even enjoyed just sitting on the front porch.
Surviving are her sisters, Jacqueline "Jacque" Robel and Sylvia "Cindy" McCormick, both of Shamokin; three aunts, Irene Rauzon and her husband, Larry, of Allentown, Florence Yodzio, of Drums, and Lorraine Slaby, of Lynnhurst, N.J.; her nieces and nephews, Paulette Robel, Kelly Hoy, Stacey Miller, Amy Snyder, David McCormick and Paul Womer; great-nieces and great-nephews, Timothy and Drew Dobbs, Madison and Riley Hoy and Cody McCormick, and several cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley Slaby Jr., John Slaby and Gerald Slaby.
SLABY — Mary Ann Slaby, 75, of Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Christian vigil at 7 p.m., and from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin 17872, or Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School, 2001 Clinton Ave., Coal Township 17866.
