John A Hornberger, 92, of 316 W. Walnut Street, Valley View, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Lehigh Valley Inpatient Hospice, Allentown.

He was born on Tuesday, August 16, 1921, in Hegins, a son of the late David and Emma Yerger Hornberger.

He was a 1939 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School.

He served as a medic in the US Army in Europe during World War II.

He was a carpenter for the former Boyertown Body Works prior to his retirement.

He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins.

He was also a member of American Legion Post 575, Valley View.

John enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

His wife, Grace E. Kauffman Hornberger, passed away in 2010.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Hornberger and Mark Hornberger; and by a sister, Kathryn Klouser.

He is survived by a sister, Anna Klouser of Pine Grove; three sister-in-laws, Mae Kauffman of Hegins, Erma Kauffman of Hegins, and C. Irene Schovel of Millersburg; and by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, April 29, with Rev. Warren Egebo officiating. Burial with military honors was made in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.
