SUNBURY — Elizabeth Patricia (Betty) Morgan, 90, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, May 1, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Elizabeth resided in Sunbury with her daughter, Karen, and son-in-law Gary Palko. She was formerly of Shamokin.

Born June 14, 1923, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of the late James and Martha (Reiland) Cain.

On Feb. 8, 1947, she was married to David L. Morgan.

She graduated from Kulpmont High School and attended Luzerne County Community College.

Elizabeth is the beloved wife of the late David. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, daughters Kathleen Morgan, Patricia Morgan, Karen Palko, son Michael, daughter-in-law Gail Morgan, and son-in-law Gary Palko. Elizabeth has 10 grandchildren, David Klotzbach, Sean Klotzbach, Paulette Robel, Chris Robel, Eric Robel, Patrick Klotzbach, Billy Robel, Ryan Morgan, Michael Morgan and David Janaskie, and 11 great-grandchildren, Summer, Morgan, Emma, Connor and Molly Klotzbach, Ella Morgan, Timothy and Drew Hobbs, Joah, Ophelia and Egan Robel.

Elizabeth was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Coal Township. While a member there, she served as a eucharistic minister, lector and lay minister and member of the bereavement committee, Catholic Daughters of America and the parish Council of Catholic Women Rosary Society. Elizabeth was very active in all church ministries.

Elizabeth served as Democrat Committeewoman for more than 40 years. She was elected as the "Democrat of the Year." She served as Coal Township tax assessor. Elizabeth served as the chair of the Northumberland County Advisory Board for the Area Agency on Aging. She was a former member of Indian Hills Golf Club.

Nothing gave Elizabeth more joy than spending time with her family, including her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, David Morgan, in 1974, and Dennis Morgan, in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers, James, Edward, John and Francis Cain, and three sisters, Martha Concannon, Mary Stellmach and Agnes Cawthern.

MORGAN — Elizabeth (Betty) Morgan, 90, of Sunbury and formerly of Shamokin. A visitation and viewing for family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday a with a Christian Wake Service at 6 p.m. at the James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, director, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple St., Coal Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Al Sceski at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Church, First and Chestnut Streets, Coal Township. Her interment will be in St. Edward's Cemetery, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Hope Church, 863 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township.
