VISTA, Calif. — Ray Malinowski, 91, a native of Mount Carmel and a resident of California's San Gabriel Valley for more than 60 years, died April 23, 2014, in Vista, Calif., of age-related illnesses.

He was born in 1923, a son of Antony and Eva Malinoski, on Maple Street in Mount Carmel.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and later completed undergraduate work at Bucknell University in Lewisburg before relocating to California in 1952.
He worked for more than 40 years as a microbiologist/bacteriologist, first for the City of Los Angeles Health Department and later for the LA County Health Department when the two merged, retiring as a senior microbiologist in 1993.
Ray is survived by a daughter, Andrea Sweeney, of Vista, Calif., and two sons, Jay Malinowski, of St. George, Utah, and Ross Malinowski, of Saratoga, Calif.; a stepson, James Doyle of Superior, Wis.; a brother, Fred Malinoski, of Bel Aire, Md.; a sister, Virginia Black, of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren Jack M., Patrick and Kevin Sweeney and Caden and Kyler Malinowski, and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Elle Sweeney.
