BALTIMORE, Md. — Dr. Courtney Alexandra Jones, DVM, of Baltimore, Md., passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014.

Born Aug. 15, 1971, in Danville, she was a daughter of Rose Marie and the late J. Patrick Jones. She left us just as she lived her life — humble and always "the sweetheart."

Attending West Catholic Elementary and Our Lady of Lourdes High School, she graduated from Bucknell University in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in biology and a minor in education. From there, Dr. Jones moved to Philadelphia to pursue a master's degree in laboratory animal science at Hahnemann University. She went on to receive her VMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.

After graduation, Dr. Jones moved to Baltimore and spent eight years practicing in Columbia, Md. She then worked at the Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank, traveling around Maryland and Virginia, conducting blood drives for dogs. She completed several courses in abdominal ultrasound and was also interested in dermatology.

Dr. Jones completed an intensive course on endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery at the University of Georgia. In 2009, Dr. Jones joined the Hunt Valley Animal Hospital in Hunt Valley, Md., where she was employed at the time of her death. She was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and The Maryland Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Jones shared her home with her two adorable cats, Griffin, a tabby adopted during her days at Penn, and Ozzie, a stray from Baltimore.

She spent as much quality time, as allowed, with her loving family and treasured nieces and nephews. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, quiet time catching up on the DVR, hitting the gym and cheering on her beloved Baltimore Ravens.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Suzanne Jones, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a brother, P. Timothy, and his wife, Niki, of Reistertown, Md.; two nephews, Ryan Patrick Jones and David Patrick Jones; two nieces, Campbell Diane Jones and Ava Rose Jones; a dear loving friend, Skip Girardin, of Denver, Colo.; an uncle, Joseph Mazzatesta; five aunts, Carol Jones, Barbara Jones, Linda Jones, Marian Edmondson and Joanne Shinskie and her husband, Dave; a great aunt, Irene Mirack, and several cousins.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Anthony and Victoria Mazzatesta; paternal grandparents, Robert B. and Louise Jones; two uncles, Anthony Mazzatesta Jr. and Robert F. Jones, and an aunt, Marie Mazzatesta.
