ELYSBURG — Daniel H. Wheary, 82, formerly of 384 Montour Road, and a resident for the past year of Serenity Gardens, 135 Vermont Drive, Kulpmont, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born in Shamokin, Aug. 24, 1931, a son of the late Frank E. and Elizabeth (Walsh) Wheary.

Daniel graduated from Shamokin High School in 1950.

He joined the U.S. Army, entering active service from Harrisburg Nov. 4, 1952. He served with the 1602 BTRY C 907 AAA and earned the National Defense Service Medal. He received an honorable discharge from Camp Kilmer, N.J., Oct. 28, 1954.

On July 20, 1957, in St. Stanislaus Church, Coal Township, he married Regina "Jean" Tosloskie, who survives.

He was employed in the textile industry and also worked in janitorial services at Rochelle Park High School in New Jersey.

He was a member of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, and American Legion Post 201, Sunbury.

Daniel was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his wife, Regina, he is survived by in-laws, Leona Vivino and Marge and John Tosloskie, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Charles Tosloskie and Florence Janaskie.

WHEARY — Daniel H. Wheary, 82, formerly of 384 Montour Road, Elysburg, and a resident for the past year at Serenity Gardens, 135 Vermont Drive, Kulpmont. Memorial visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Flowers will be provided by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Daniel's name to Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, 599 W. Center St., Elysburg 17824.
