SHAMOKIN — Charles Robert Korzenaski, 80, of 1 W. Montgomery St., where he lived the past 40 years, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township.

He was born in Shamokin, June 10, 1934, a son of the late Anthony and Frances (Garvich) Korzenaski. He was a lifelong resident of the Shamokin area.

Charles attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School and was a graduate of Shamokin High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy July 22, 1952, and served aboard the USS Bushnell. He earned the National Defense Service Ribbon and received an honorable discharge June 25, 1956.

On Sept. 12, 1958, in St. Stephen's Church, Coal Township, he married the former Jean Wudyka, who survives.

He was employed as a sheet metal worker.

He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, the Sheet Metal Workers' Union Local 44, Wilkes-Barre, and the West End Fire Co., where he was a trustee and financial secretary, and a member of the fire police.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Jean, are a daughter, Kathleen Witcoskie and her husband, David, of Paxinos; a son, Anthony Korzenaski and his wife, Anne, of Kreamer; three grandchildren, Matthew, Kayne Martin and Kayla Martin; a great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Korzenaski; a brother, Joseph Korzenaski and his wife, Audrey, of Shamokin; a sister, Frances Guzik, of Serenity Gardens, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

KORZENASKI — Charles Robert Korzenaski, 80, of 1 W. Montgomery St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Church, Chestnut and First streets, Coal Township. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. A viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charles' name to the donor's favorite charity.
