SHAMOKIN — Reynolds D. Rhoades, 89, of 724 N. Franklin St., Shamokin, died at 12:41 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2014.

He was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Catawissa to Harold Isiah and Sara Longenberger Rhoades. He attended Shamokin Schools.

He worked as a miner and coal and ash hauler and retired from CEOC Steel, New Columbia.

On July 1, 1950, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Shamokin, Reynolds married Ruth A. Gusick, who preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2004.

Reynolds served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 608th Battalion in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, earning 5 bronze battle stars for his service.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a life member of the Shamokin Moose and the Kulpmont American Legion. He was very active with volunteer fire organizations, and was a life member of Liberty Fire Co. as well as past president and captain of the Shamokin Fire Police.

He is survived by sons and daughters, R. Craig Rhoades and wife, Pamala, of Shamokin, R. Brent Rhoades and wife, Anne Marie, of Elysburg, LaRae Kyttle and husband, Francis, of Seven Points, and Marsha Vesnefski and husband, Sheldon, of Paxinos; four grandchildren, Matthew and Kevin Rhoades, Deserae Kyttle and Caleb Vesnefski; four step-grandchildren, Jason Purcell, Christina Pavlock, Cindy Stemrich and Sebrina Matukaitis; eight step great-grandchildren, and sisters and brothers, June Rychwalski, Wanda Schoffler and Wayne Rhoades.

He was preceded in death by Vaughn Rhoades, Shirley Ryan, Larue Erdman and Ramona Milbrand.

RHOADES — Reynolds D. Rhoades, 89, of 724 N. Franklin St., Shamokin. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Farrow Funeral Home with the Rev. David Hauck officiating. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Farrow Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
