MOUNT CARMEL — Mary Ellen Murray, 74, of 229 E. Second St., passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at SUN Home Hospice, Sunbury. She resided in Glen Burnie, Md. from 1970 to 1993.

Mary Ellen was born March 24, 1940, in Mount Carmel to the late Frank and Julia (Cashman) Devine.
She was a 1957 graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School.
Mary Ellen was employed by the Department of Aging in Maryland and Anne Arundel County. Upon her return to Mount Carmel from Maryland, she secured employment at King Coal Tours until her retirement in December 2013.
On Nov. 26, 1964, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, she married Joseph P. Murray, who survives.
Mary Ellen was committed to her faith and Catholic education. When she lived in Maryland, she served on parish council and was coordinator of religious education. Upon her return to her home parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, she served on parish council, the festival committee and as a lector. She also organized and assisted at multiple annual fundraising events. She also served on the Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School Board of Directors as well as the development council for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Brendan Murray, of Harrisburg; a sister, Frances Joyce, of Sea Grit, N.J.; a brother, the Rev. Patrick Devine, of Elysburg; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ann P. Jepko.
MURRAY — Mary Ellen Murray, 74, of 229 E. Second St., Mount Carmel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with her brother, the Rev. Patrick Devine, officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass in the church. Joseph J. Stutz Inc.
