LOCUST GAP — Theresa M. Birster, 89, of 177 Main St., passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township.

She was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Locustdale, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Looks) Puskoskie.

She attended Mount Carmel Township schools.

On Sept. 25, 1943, in St. Joseph Church, Locust Gap, she married John F. Birster Sr., who preceded her in death May 24, 1997.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel, and a former member of St. Joseph Church in Locust Gap. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Ann Gratti and her husband, Charles, of Kulpmont; two sons and daughters-in-law, John F. Birster Jr. and his wife, Gisele, of Locust Gap, and James L. Birster and his wife, Maria, of Locust Gap; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Birster, of Shamokin; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Birster; a daughter, Theresa Marie Birster; three brothers, Charles, Albert and Edward Puskoskie; three sisters, Julia Puskoskie, Alice Boylan and Stella Novack, and two stepsisters, Emma Kaminski and Helen Shuda.

BIRSTER — Theresa M. Birster, 89, of 177 Main St., Locust Gap. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Francis Karwacki as celebrant. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Joseph J. Stutz Inc.
