SHAMOKIN — Joseph Ralph "Joe" Verano, 87, of 316 S. Shamokin St., formerly of 2135 Jackson St., Coal Township, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born in Shamokin, Dec. 4, 1926, a son of the late Jenny and Ralph Verano.

He was married to Marion (Stank) Rowe Verano, who preceded him in death.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He owned and operated his own coal mine and had also worked at the Arrow Warehouse in Elysburg and Clark's Meat Packaging in Irish Valley.

Joe was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, and a member of the Friendship Fire Company and American Legion, both in Shamokin.

He is survived by two stepdaughters and their families, Barbara and Harvey Kreitzer, of Escondito, Calif., and their children, Christopher, Kimberly and Harvey Jr., and Frances and Dennis Filarski, of Elysburg, their daughter, Rosanne Dabulis, and her children, Mason and Gage Dabulis; a sister, Barbara Verano, of Coal Township; a brother, Arthur Verano and his wife, Arlene, of Elysburg, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles "Red," Francis, Reynolds, Ralph Jr., Abbey and Lester; a sister, Elizabeth, and a step-granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Kreitzer, in infancy.


VERANO — Joseph Ralph "Joe" Verano, 87, of 316 S. Shamokin St., formerly of 2135 Jackson St., Coal Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Of Hope Church, First and Chestnut streets, Coal Township. Family and friends are invited to call at the visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township. Interment will follow Mass in St. Edward Cemetery, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Hope Church, 869 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township 17866.
