COLUMBUS, Ohio — James O. Thomas, 90, of Columbus, formerly of Mount Carmel, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Friendship Village.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts.

Thomas retired from Nationwide Insurance after a 30-plus year career as director of human resources.

Thomas was a lifetime member of the Masons in Pennsylvania, a Dale Carnegie instructor, an actor and a very involved father and grandfather.

Surviving are his three children, Lee Ann Ned and her husband, Brandon, Cathy Ferrell and her husband, Michael, and Craig Thomas and his wife, JoAnne; five grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Danny, Clayton and Cole.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Hilldenbrand) Thomas.


THOMAS — James O. Thomas, 90, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Mount Carmel. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio, where a service will follow at 1 p.m. The Rev. Rebecca Scott Ozcomert will officiate. Interment will be in Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shirley Thomas Education Fund at the Columbus Zoo, 4850 Powell Road, Powell, Ohio 43065.
