Byron R. Alvord, Wiconisco, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at home.

Born April 29, 1934, in Wiconisco, he was a son of the late David F. and Myrtle K. Zerbe Alvord.

Byron was an Army veteran.

He enjoyed woodworking and model trains.

In addition to his parents, Byron was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Carl and Harold; and two sisters, Ruby and Violet.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Peifer Alvord; a daughter, Connie M. Alvord, Reinholds; sisters, Dawn Ferree, Elizabethville, Catherine Lower, Wiconisco, and Dorothy Bopp, Lykens; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and -nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 from Calvary United Methodist Church, 519 Pottsville St., Wiconisco, with Pastor Annette Shutt officiating. Interment was in Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church. John R. Shultz Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
