COAL TOWNSHIP — Edward James Fitzpatrick Jr., 65, of 1640 Wabash St., Coal Township and formerly of Allentown, passed away at 11:51 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Born Feb. 21, 1949, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Edward V. and Violet (Zaborney) Fitzpatrick.

He was a graduate of Lourdes Regional High School and a graduate of an electronics and computer school in Philadelphia. He was employed by Transbridge in Allentown as the head of the safety department. He returned to Shamokin two weeks prior to his death.

He was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Church, now Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, all of Allentown and the Philadelphia Area.

Edward enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Oct. 24, 1968, from Philadelphia. During his enlistment, he served with the U.S. Air Force Hospital. He received an honorable discharge Feb. 18, 1971, at Kincheloe Air Force Base, Kinross, Mich.

He is survived by his mother, Violet; a friend, Donald Miller; his sister, Caroline Styer, of Philadelphia; his brother, Gary Fitzpatrick, of Elysburg; and his nieces and nephews Matthew Styer, Catherine and Sean Fitzpatrick and Erin Fitzpatrick.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents.

FITZPATRICK — Edward James Fitzpatrick Jr., 65, of 1640 Wabash St., Coal Township and formerly of Allentown. A memorial visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday in the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home, Ltd., Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor, 120 S. Market St., Shamokin. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. with a friar from Mother Cabrini Church as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Coal Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Edward's name to the donor's local SPCA.
