COAL TOWNSHIP — John D. Shuma Sr., 75, of 1327 W. Mulberry St., died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, in the Mountain View Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township, where he had been a patient for the past three years.

Born in Shamokin on Feb. 14, 1933, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Strick) Shuma.
He was educated in Shamokin schools and served with the United States Army in Germany from 1950 to 1955.
Mr. Shuma was formerly employed by the Revlon Co. in New Jersey, and later by the Kulpmont Sewing Factory and last by the Shamokin Shoe Co.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Shuma enjoyed caring for his dogs and cats.
He is survived by one son and one daughter; John D. Shuma Jr. and wife, Charlene, of Coal Township; Louise M. Shurock, of Hollister, Fla.; two grandsons, Thomas L. and Aaron M. Shurock of Hollister, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Samantha L. and Justin M. Shurock; one sister, Mary Shuma, of Texas.
He is also survived by other family members and friends and will be sorely missed by all of them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Beverly L. Reed on June 3.
SHUMA — John D. Shuma Sr., 75, of 1327 W. Mulberry St., Coal Township. The funeral service is private. Funeral arrangements were made by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
