SHAMOKIN — Joan Marie Britton, 57, of 1109 N. Pearl St., passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at her residence. She had been in ill health since 2011.

Born Dec. 19, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Anna Mae (Darrup) Porembo.

She was a 1972 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School.

On June 6, 1987, she married David Britton, who survives.

She was employed as a clerk for Weis Markets at the Anthra Plaza, Coal Township.

She was the biggest Steelers fan and loved her puzzle books. Throughout her battle, she was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Even in the worst of times, she thought and cared about everyone but herself, putting a smile on everyone's face she came in contact with. She was one of the bravest, selfless souls anyone ever met. May she rest in peace in God's hands.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Shannon Walters, of Herndon, Chad and Amy Walters, of Ranshaw, and David Britton, and his companion, Haley Torres, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stacey and Tom Traver, of Ranshaw, and Coreen Britton and Richard White Sr., of Shamokin; 10 grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Princess.
