MOUNT CARMEL — Paul J. Saukaitis, of 16 S. Willow St., passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Mount Carmel, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Hudock) Saukaitis. He was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel.

Paul was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Oriskany.

On July 6, 1957, in Our Mother of Consolation Church, Mount Carmel, he married the former Catherine Mirarchi, who survives.

He and his wife were the proprietors of Barker Bakery, one of the most beloved family-owned small businesses in Mount Carmel, where they lovingly created and served the community baked goods and one-of-a-kind confections for almost 50 years before retiring in 2009.

Paul was a member of Divine Redeemer Church and was formerly a member of Holy Cross Church. He was a member of the Mount Carmel American Legion, VFW, Fountain Springs Country Club and the Lithuanian Knights. He also served as past president of the Mount Carmel Rotary Club.

He was an avid Red Sox and Indianapolis Colts fan. Sometimes called "Chuck" by those around him, you could always count on Paul for a friendly wave and entertaining story, or a lively debate. But most of all, you knew that you could always count on him for a helping hand.

Paul will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, his love and devotion to his family, and his enduring friendship.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah Beierschmitt, and her husband, Richard, of Mount Carmel, and a granddaughter, Jodi Frantz, and her husband, Carter, of Lemoyne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
