SHAMOKIN — Ralph M. Starr, 95, of 1120 W. Arch St., passed away at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past 12 weeks, a resident of Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past six weeks and was admitted to the hospital Wednesday.

Born July 16, 1917, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Harry J. and Mary E. (Miller) Starr. He lived for 50 years in Baltimore, Md., and returned to Shamokin in 1987.

Ralph attended Shamokin schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On July 26, 1947, in Jappa, Md., he married Mary Elizabeth Davis, who preceded him in death.

He worked as a motor vehicle dispatcher for the U.S. government, retiring in 1974.

Ralph was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 600, Shamokin American Legion and the Shamokin-Coal Township Senior Citizen Action Center.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Erma Shurgalla, Katherine Starr and Dorothy Clements.

STARR — Ralph M. Starr, 95, of 1120 W. Arch St., Shamokin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin, with the Revs. Brian Betsworth and Robin Arcus officiating. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contribution be made to Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 27 N. Sixth St., Shamokin 17872.
