KULPMONT — Clair Elmer Friday Sr., 90, of Serenity Gardens and formerly of 419 Main St., Aristes, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, June 21, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township, where he had been staying since last July.

He was born in Wilburton, Feb. 28, 1923, a son of the late Adolph and Lena Jane (Fetterman) Friday.

He attended schools in Conyingham Township.

He served as corporal in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946, having served in Manila and the Philippines.

Clair was married Sept. 21, 1946, to the former Mabel Minnier, who survives.

He worked in the Wilburton Braker, Milko Knittery and at Kraft Container. He was also a tax collector in Aristes for 19 years.

He was a faithful member and janitor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Aristes, where he served on the church council and was a Sunday school superintendent for many years.

He was a past master of Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge 378 and Cedar Lodge 378. He was also a Mason for more than 50 years. He was a past master of Tall Cedars Shamokin.

He was a member of Aristes Fire Company, Mount Carmel Elks and Wilburton American Legion.

Clair enjoyed hunting and fishing and helping drive for funerals for the Rothermel Funeral Home. He was also a faithful Red Cross donor.

In addition to his wife, Clair is survived by two sons, Larry Friday and his wife, Annette, of Elkton, Md., and Clair Friday Jr. and his wife, Hylah, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Brenda Friday, of East Stroudsburg; four grandchildren, Kristen Nicholson, Gwen Myers, Amy Jo Murray and Beth Ann Friday, and seven great-grandchildren.

FRIDAY — Clair Elmer Friday Sr., 90, of Serenity Gardens, Kulpmont, and formerly of 419 Main St., Aristes. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 419 Main St., Aristes, with the Rev. Joan Brown officiating. Interment will be held in the Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Aristes. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter's Luthern Church. There will be a Masonic service at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Rothermel Funeral Home, Mount Carmel. Ray W. Rothermel, director, is in charge of the arrangements.
