Dr. David "Doc" Revak

David Revak Obituary

GILBERT, Ariz. — Dr. David "Doc" Revak, of Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of Shamokin, crossed the threshold joining God Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Blairanne, "Doctor Blair." Five wonderful children and their families now celebrate his life of caring and laughing: Heather and Adam Walterson and children Alea and Christian of Gilbert, Celestia Pace and children Larissa and David, of Berwick, and Sabrina and Warren Karcher and their son, Logan, also of Berwick, Charles and Denise Yaple Revak with Jaiden and Jude, of Odenton, Md.. Matthew and Jenny Yemola Revak and Maddie, of Hazleton, and Shally and Eric Wise and children Jesse and Amaya, of Gilbert.

His brother, Tom, preceded David in death.

Born in Shamokin in 1940, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Jelus) Revak.

A scholarship took him to Cornell University to play football. The football skills later led to Susquehanna University where he earned his bachelor's degree. Graduating from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he and his wife, Blair, began a 33-year practice of family medicine in Bloomsburg where they were joined by several partners including Dr. William Kuprevich and Drs. Chris and Catherine O'Neil.

Dr. David served as team physician for Bloomsburg Area High School and Bloomsburg University and delivered more than 3,500 babies.

A practice hiatus took Dr. David and Blair to the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico from 1981-83. They retired from Bloomsburg in 2001. They served with the Indian Health Service on the Hualapai, Havasupai and Sioux reservations for seven years. Several mission trips to Guatemala filled the life of giving.

Dr. David won the battle with Hodgkins disease in 1991. He acquired esophageal cancer in 2011 and fought an amazing battle for nearly two years. In the throes of cancer treatment, he started painting. He produced many paintings as therapy for coping with the cancer and the treatments.

He was a season ticket holder to the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Opera, Shakespeare Company. He was also an avid amateur wrestling fan, enjoying tournaments with his son, Matthew.

His dog, Zaydie, grieves with us.
