Anthony John Warner, 71, was born to Johnny and Pauline (Brown) Warner, on March 20, 1941, in Nulato. He passed away peacefully on March 18, 2013, at Harbor View Manor in Wasilla, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Tony was 10 when his parents died. His aunts and uncles stepped up to care for him. He was raised, for a short time, by his uncle Wally and aunt Edna Stickman, then by his aunt Pauline and the late Arthur Peter. Tony was the last survivor of 12 children.
He met and married Bonnie Sather in Soldotna where they had their first child, Sharlot. They lived in Soldotna for the next 11 years, during which Tony worked as a mechanic for the Department of Transportation. After retiring, he brought his family to Nulato and worked for the Labors Local 942. Later, he moved to Galena where he stayed until moving to the Harbor View Manor in Wasilla.
Tony lived a traditional subsistence lifestyle - hunting, fishing, trapping and teaching his children to hunt and fish. He was a gifted musician and loved to play his guitar, sing and dance.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Pauline Warner; Wally and Edna Stickman; Arthur Peter and his brother, Harold; and siblings.
Tony leaves behind, his children, Sharlot Warner (Gordon), Sylvia Wailliams (Walter), Heather Warner (Mike), and Harold Warner (Esther); grandchildren, Cynthia Evans, Rachel Evans, Shantel Evans, Kenneth Evans II, Drew Evans, Jordan Williams, Madison Williams and Mia Warner; and his great-granddaughter, Hope Arabella Lewis.
Our dad will be greatly missed by all of his children, grandchildren and by all of his family and friends.
A funeral Mass was held Friday, March 22, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbanks. Tony was laid to rest in the Birch Hill Native Cemetery. That evening, people gathered at Chief David Salmon Tribal Hall in a traditional Athabascan potlatch in celebration of Tony's life.
Condolences can be sent to Sharlot Warner, at P.O. Box 71648, Fairbanks, AK 99701.
