Longtime Fox resident Beverly Ann Rickels, 62, passed away Sept. 25, 2012, at her cabin in the Goldstream Valley.
Beverly was born Dec. 31, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio.
Beverly was an adventurer and lived in Kentucky, California and Oregon before moving her family to Alaska in the early 1980s to start her "Alaska adventure."
Beverly truly loved Alaska and all it had to offer. Beverly built her home in the Goldstream Valley to raise her two daughters in.
Beverly enjoyed working with leather. She loved her dogs, cats, horses and took pride in her Boxers. Beverly began her own mushing business at Chatanika called Awl Alaskan Kennels providing any and all individuals with a great Alaska experience. Where ever Beverly went she made new friends, sharing her wisdom and experiences through humor and sometimes all out in your face honesty.
Beverly enjoyed the great outdoors and was never afraid to get a little dirty. Beverly tackled the great outdoors with enthusiasm from mining, hunting, trapping and fishing. She would spend quiet time at the Large Animal Research Station off Yankovich Road watching the musk ox roam.
Beverly loved her family including all of those she claimed as her extended Alaska family.
Beverly is survived by her two daughters; Tonya Justice and Corey Patton; all of her dear grandchildren, Victoria and Vincent Justice, Sky and Mahalia Patton, and India Smart.
Beverly was born to Raymond and Hazel Rickels of Ohio.
Her mother, Hazel Rickels, precedes her in death.
She is survived by her sisters, Deborah and her husband Bernie Ratcliff, and Lisa Rickels; brothers, Raymond "Butch" and spouse, Debbie Reckless, Eddie and spouse, Patty Reckless; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Beverly lived life to the fullest, and her infectious smile will forever truly be missed.
A celebration of life will take place from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the Ken Kunkle Community Center in the Goldstream Valley. Please bring a story and a dish to share.
In lieu of flowers please bring a helium balloon to release at the closing of the celebration.
