Chet William Garey passed from this life Dec. 5, 2013, at his home in Fairbanks.
Chet was born Oct. 5, 1983, in Fairbanks.
He attended school at Woodriver Elementary, Ryan Middle and graduated from West Valley High in 2002. He had been pursuing an engineering degree at UAF. Chet attended Fairbanks Lutheran Church and The Sanctuary Church. He was baptized in Jesus' name in December 2008.
As a youth growing up in Fairbanks, Chet embraced the outdoor life. Fishing was one of his favorite past times. He also loved to hunt and snowmachine with his family and best friend, Jacob Etcheverry. Chet was always hard working and very mechanically inclined; at age 5, he was taking the screws out of a Chevy truck.
He worked at Safeway while in high school. After graduating, he worked as a mechanic for Carlile Transportation and Crowley in Prudhoe Bay. While attending UAF he worked at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska in Fairbanks. At the time of his death he was employed as an apprentice engineer with the State of Alaska.
Chet is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Lewis and Lolita Hoose, Harold and Melva Day; his grandfather, Chester Garey; his uncle, Tom Garey; his stepsister, Monique Mathis, and his best friend, Jacob Etcheverry.
He is survived by his son, Timothy R. Garey; his parents, Bruce (Peggy) Garey, Karen (Richard) Buck; brothers, Chad Garey and Andy Buck; stepsisters, Joselynn Duranona, Brittney Mathis, of Fairbanks; his paternal grandmother, Joyce Garey; his maternal grandparents, Linda Day and Kenneth Day; his aunts, Linda Knowles and Donna Branic, of New York; his niece and nephews, Yazi, Robert and Dylan; and his cousins, Robert Day and Michael Szkapi, Frank, Jack and Nicole Sidari, all of New York.
We will all miss him very much.
