Eric Martin Jernstrom(1964 - 2013)

Eric Martin Jernstrom, a nearly lifelong Alaskan, friend to many and father to one, left this world the evening of Nov.  2, 2013. Eric was born Feb. 23, 1964, in Tacoma Wash., to Kenneth and the late Shirley Jernstrom. He moved to Alaska with his family at the age of 2 and called Fairbanks his home ever since. He graduated from Lathrop High School in 1982 and was married to Dona Vincent from 1983-2005. His daughter, Jessica, was born in 1984. Eric worked at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner from 1983 to 2004 and also with Air Liquide intermittently from 2005 to 2012.
Eric walked his daughter down the aisle in March 2009 and was introduced to his grandsons in December 2009 and August 2013. He also spent much time in Washington during 2006-2013 for medical reasons and to spend time with family.
Eric is survived by his father, Kenneth, of Fairbanks and Chinook, Wash.; stepmother, Beverly; sister, Marcia; her husband, Gary, and their children, Heather and Michael, of Humbolt, Tenn.; brothers, Kenneth Jr., of Fairbanks; Arthur; his wife, Susan, and their children, Kristina and James, of Fairbanks; Robert; his wife, Cherie, and their children, Christopher, Gregory, Megan and Alexandra, of Anchorage; sister-in-law, Lila, and her children, Stephanie and Neil, of Aberdeen, Wash.; his daughter, Jessica; her husband, Simon, and their sons, Gabriel and Evan, of Fairbanks; Jessica's mother, Dona Yoder, of Fairbanks; and many dear friends who are considered family.
Eric was also very close to his former in-laws and friends, Carol and Lyman Vincent, of Fairbanks, with their sons, Timothy and wife, Sherri, and their daughters, Amanda and Kayla; and Rusty and wife, Alicia, and their children, Larissa, Lance, Caleb, Abigail and Jesse.
Eric is joyfully reunited with his mother, Shirley; brothers, Steven and Martin; nephew, Leon; and grandson, Noah, but sorely missed by family and friends. He is remembered especially for his strength and humor in the face of adversity. He is missed by so many, and we are privileged to call him father, son, grandfather, brother, friend.
