Etta "Sally" Crutchfield, 73, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, in Fairbanks.
Sally was born Feb. 26, 1939, in Salem, Ore., to Paul and Ida Mackey. Sally worked in the canneries in Oregon for many years.
Sally was many things: curious, intelligent, talkative, playful and loving. She was dedicated and loyal to her family and had a heart of gold. Family was her first priority. She generously shared her home to help many members of her family. She took care of older family members and gave her life to help them all until her death.
She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She wanted to spend more time with them. She had fun with Melanie going shopping, sightseeing, playing bingo and going out to eat with her family.
She enjoyed playing bingo, card games and computer games with her family and friends. She was competitive and enjoyed winning and sending people computer points. She spent lots of time messaging people on Facebook. She had fun playing with the dog, Buster, and her little dog, Jake.
Her strength, stubbornness and perseverance helped her when she had many health problems during the last few years of her life. When she was told she might not walk again because of a spine injury, she said, "watch me!" She worked hard and she walked. She always said, "Take it one day at a time. Try to make what you do good."
Sally is survived by her children Paul (Pamela) Worman, Debbie (Ervin) Fodge, John Crutchfield and Cheryl Crutchfield; her grandchildren Jacob, Alexandrea, Danielle Crutchfield and Donna Fodge Hernandez; and her great-grandchildren, Kylee, Alexis and Savannah Hernandez. She also is survived by her best friend, Melanie Kokrine; brothers, Clay Nyhus, and son, Gordy, Ray Nyhus, and daughters, Cathy (and her five kids) and Tina (and her six kids); and sister, Olie Curtsinger; and aunts and uncles, Bud (Ruth) Martin and Phil (Esther) Martin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ida Mackey; aunts, Doris Larson, Flora Carson and Viola Lenaburg; uncles, Art Martin and Louie (Mable) Martin; and brother, Butch Mackey.
There will be a viewing for Sally from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home in Salem, Ore. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the funeral home followed by burial in Bethany Pioneer Cemetery in Salem, Ore., next to her parents.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank for donations to help defray funeral costs.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
