Frank Peter Francis

Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, cousin and friend Frank Peter Francis went to be with the lord, peacefully in his sleep, at home in Fort Yukon, surrounded by his loving wife, Irene, and son, David.
Frankie was born Jan. 26, 1941, in Fort Yukon to David and Myra Francis. Frankie attended grade school in Arctic Village and graduated in 1962 from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka. He was an avid athlete all throughout high school and loved playing basketball.
Frankie was an electrician by trade. He worked at the water project in Kotzebue and as an electrician in the Yukon Flats. He touched many hearts. Frankie lived a subsistence lifestyle, living mostly off the land. He loved to spend summers at fish camp and loved fall hunting near the Canada/Alaska border. He passed on this legacy and love to his youngest son, David. They spent a lot of time out in the country together.
As a young boy, Frankie once traveled by dog team from Arctic Village to Fort Yukon with his mother, Mrya Francis. Frankie was fluent in Gwichin language. He had a good sense of humor. He was a great storyteller and took joy in making people laugh. He made friends easily and had many friends from all over.
He is survived by his loving wife and life partner of 50 years, Irene; his sons, Dennis and wife Josie Hunnicutt, of Noatak; John Curtis, of Anchorage; and David Francis, of Fort Yukon; his daughter, Lulu and husband Carl Chamblee, of Palmer; sisters, Bella Jean and Don Savino, of Fairbanks; Mildred "Millie" and Zeno Poldalski, of Fort Yukon; Annie Christian and family, of Arctic Village; Mary and Trimble Gilbert and family, of Artic Village; and numerous grandchildren and family all over the state of Alaska and Wyoming.
Frankie is preceded in death by his parents, David and and Myra Francis, a brother, and grandparents.
He will be sorely missed by his family and close friends.
Frankie was laid to rest Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in Fort Yukon. Mary Nathaniel of Chalkyitsik officiated.
