John "JJ" Middleton, 73, of Fairbanks, died very peacefully Nov. 13, 2013,
at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. His family was by his side and will miss him very much.
He was born March 30, 1940, in New Hampshire to John Middleton Sr. and Gertrude Middleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randall Middleton; and daughter, Gina Lemire.
John was proud to be an Air Force veteran and served during the Berlin Air Crisis in 1960.
Afterward, he became a master plumber and started his own plumbing company. In 1973, he came to Alaska to work on the pipeline and called Alaska home for his last 40 years.
He and Jean met and married in Fairbanks in 1981 and had 32 very special years together.
John once again became a master plumber and started Interior Mechanical Plumbing & Heating, as well as other companies, such as Asbestos Removal Specialists of Alaska, Inc. (the first asbestos company in Alaska).
JJ loved to go camping, hunting and especially fishing on his boat in Prince William Sound. John loved eagles and often thought about the freedom, strength and beauty of this bird that also could be so passive and nurturing to its offspring. John was a lot like the eagle, for he loved life and thought of so many of his family and friends as his offspring so he could nurture and protect when needed.
John is survived by his wife, Jean (of Fairbanks); daughter, Marlo McDaniel and son-in-law Freddie; brother, Glen Middleton and wife Janice; nephew, Craig Middleton and wife Andi; two grand-nieces; niece, Laura Browning and husband Randy; and three grandchildren (all of New Hampshire).
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Chapel of Chimes. Services will begin at 6 p.m. Flowers may be sent; however, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Fairbanks Memorial Hospice, 2001 Gillam Way, Fairbanks AK 99701.
