Longtime Alaskan Katherine Flora Hummel, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Central Peninsula Hospital.
The family is planning a celebration of Kathy's life at Soldotna Memorial Park in summer 2013.
Kathy was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Fairbanks. She married Jack in Fairbanks in 1949, and lived in Fairbanks, Big Delta, Yakutat, Kenai, Soldotna and Anchorage. After retirement, she and Jack spent summers in Alaska and winters in Green Valley, Ariz. She enjoyed spending time with family and traveled the Alaska Highway numerous times with children and grandchildren.
During her years in Alaska she worked for the Kenai Peninsula College, Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and Anchorage School District.
She loved to play tennis, hike in Green Valley, Ariz. and travel in Alaska, and throughout the Lower-48. She enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens and was a superb cook and seamstress. She will always be remembered as an excellent homemaker and hostess to many friends and relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Flora Greimann, and her brother, Malcolm.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, married for 63 years; daughters, Janis Hummel, Karen Hummel and husband, Mick Wykis, and Judy Hummel and husband, Robert Kuiper; brothers, Paul Greimann and wife, Agnes, Willis Greimann and wife, Patty; sister, Judy and husband, Jim Moore; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to Central Peninsula Hospital for their support in her final days.
