Manuel Aaron "Gomer" Gomes

Manuel Aaron "Gomer" Gomes, of Fairbanks, went home to be with our Lord on Dec. 20, 2012. He was 69 years old.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel; mother Merrie; and nephews, David and Aaron. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, the love of his life, Lori Gomes, of Fairbanks; his two sons, Clint and Mike; and two grandchildren, Darren and Alyssa. He is also survived by his five sisters and three brothers, including Tess Gomes, of Fairbanks.
Gomer was a proud Alaskan and a member of the Local 302 Operating Engineers for nearly 40 years. He was an avid hockey fan and went to nearly every Ice Dogs home game. Prior to moving to Alaska, Gomer was a corporal in the Marine Corps proudly serving his country during the Vietnam Conflict.
Gomer was a true family man. He was a proud parent, proud grandparent, and cared deeply about the community of Fairbanks. He loved his cat, and his three dogs that he often took to the local dog parks. He enjoyed hunting with his brother and nephews.
Gomer was an extremely capable individual who constantly helped others. He was not afraid to speak his mind. He never stopped learning, and always sought to understand how things worked.
He will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he impacted. Services will be held in the spring at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made on his behalf to the Fairbanks Veterans Center.
