Oliver "Ollie" Charlie was born Feb. 8, 1948, in Minto. He passed away Jan. 9, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ollie attended school in Minto and Wrangell, and graduated from Mount Edgecumbe High School, Sitka, in 1967. He served in the National Guard and was discharged because of a vision impairment. Ollie worked on the pipeline and was a seasonal firefighter
Ollie was a quiet and kind man who was loved by his nieces and nephews. He fought his battle with cancer because of his love for his nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed listening to the radio and kept up with the news. He had a keen memory and memorized everyone's birthday.
Ollie was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Martha Charlie; brother, Curtis Charlie; and nieces, Annette Roberts and Dana Charlie.
Ollie is survived by his brothers, Lloyd (Joyce) Charlie and Roy Charlie, both of Minto; sisters, Esther (Del) Hayward, of Anchorage; Veronica, Christine Charlie, and Priscilla Johnson, of Fairbanks; and numerous nieces and nephews, all whom he loved very much.
A funeral, officiated by the Rev. Anna Frank, will be held, at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 12, 2013, at the community hall in Minto.
A traditional potlatch will follow.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home
